A Week from H-E-L-L

Well, I thought this was going to be a productive, normal week. I was mistaken! I haven't been able to run all week because of my stupid abdominal pain but it's not like I've had a lot of free time anyways. I have been working 10-12 hour days pretty much all week. I made it to the weekend, though and enjoyed watching my Cowboys beat Tech Saturday, so that was a positive! :)

I am starting to feel better and my doctor and I are working on figuring out what is causing my pain, so that's all good. I'll keep it at that!

I *think* this week will be more like what I was planning on last week being but who knows... life is always full of surprises! I'm not going to complain too much though, I am fortunate to have a job that keeps me busy and allows me to afford trips and other luxuries in my life! I realize not everyone is as fortunate and I am thankful for my jobs and the life I have.

That said, I am looking forward to getting some good runs and workouts in this week, homecoming and a big game against Nebraska Saturday, and getting closer to our trip to Bonaire (less than 2 weeks!)!!

Race for the Cure

On Saturday I did the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K. I am not sure about my time as I can't find where they have them listed but I know it wasn't anything to brag about. There were several factors affecting this -

1) I had to walk off and on due to abdominal pain I've been having all week (not to mention during and after the race!). Not only has this pain been a pain in my abdomen it's been a pain to my running routine!

2) The event was a bit of a challenge because it was so large (15,000 people!) and it was for walkers and runners. I was dodging walkers and groups by running on sidewalks and grassy areas. My left ankle was unstable when on the uneven surfaces but did well. I am hoping as I increase my mileage I can continue running without an ankle brace.

3) I went to a pub the night before the race to watch the OSU football game, stayed up until 2AM (the race started at 8:15), and drank a lot of beer. These factors alone made the 5K a bit more challenging... I won't be doing that again!

Regardless of time, it was nice to do an event. My next 5K will be November 20 for the Ardmore Chigger Chase. I'm wanting a time of 30 minutes or less. I know I can do it!

Oops!

So, I'm once again blogging after a lengthy delay. Life just gets in the way of blogging sometimes!

That said - I'm going to do my best to update more often. I think if I have a specific thing I'm updating about I should do better. I've registered for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon on May 1, 2011 which will be my first full marathon (I did the half last year). I am currently getting back into running shape after my ankle accident this summer and am going to be doing a few 5Ks in the upcoming months to get into a routine. At the beginning of the year I will begin my full marathon training schedule. I would like to blog a bit more about my running since it has become a big part of my life. I will be adding in all the tidbits of daily life, too since most of my real life friends who read my blog have no desire to only read about my running. :) So, here's to hoping for more consistent posting from me!

Updates and Frustrations

Well, here I am finally writing again after a lengthy delay. Since I've last written I've been to California and become a LSVT LOUD clinician, had my car broken into and purse stolen (resulting in months of dealing with this crap... but the guy was caught), had my office close but didn't lose my job - I am just based out of another office, completed my first half marathon, spent 2 weeks in Hawaii, turned a year older, and just recently ruined my summer. How's that you ask? Well, I play co-ed slow pitch softball and I injured myself sliding into a base. :( I managed to break a bone and tear a ligament. When I injure myself I like to do it up big. So, I'll be spending most of the summer in a boot to immobilize my ankle. I am so incredibly frustrated.

I'm frustrated because this summer I was going to begin training for my first triathlon. I was planning on taking part in an Olympic triathlon in October and was going to train all summer to be ready for it. I know I will complete one after I heal, I'm just frustrated that I can't do much of anything right now. I want to be running, swimming (for training and at the lake), playing softball, playing golf, ANYTHING but sitting here with a stupid boot on my foot. I guess this is just another curve ball in life. I'll get through it, I'm just frustrated.

My sweet hubby has been awesome though. I love him and appreciate everything he is doing to take care of me and cheer me up. :)

Illnesses and Life

Well, February is halfway over and I've been sick for most of it. I came down with the flu (influenza B) for several days the first week of February and then I had a nasty cough for a week so I went to the doctor again. Well, fortunately I went early because they caught the beginning of pneumonia, thanks to the flu I had. No wonder I had such a nasty cough and was still feeling "blah". I'm on some hardcore meds to try and get rid of this crap which is great but they make me feel... weird. And apparently, one of the meds increases my risk of rupturing a tendon? That is great to know... especially with all my workouts and training I'm doing. I'm hoping to beat this stuff for good and get back to 100% ASAP. This crap has caused my hubby and I to postpone our Valentine's Day plans until I feel better. I spent the day relaxing with my hubby. He has been a good nurse. :)

This week brings a busy 3 days of work before I jump on a plane for sunny California! It's for business but I am excited. Hello In-N-Out Burger!! Oh how I've missed you! :) I love California! I'm also looking forward to enjoying warmer weather... I'm ready for our weather to warm up!

So, with all this illness crap I'm dealing with, I sure hope I'm doing better for my trip. I'm functioning with this crap (obviously - I went back to work with this lung crap last week before I went to the doctor and am working this week, too) but I just don't feel great. I'm ready to feel better so I can get into tip-top shape for the marathon (hopefully this stuff hasn't completely ruined my training for it) and our 13 day, 12 night Hawaiian vacation!

So, I'm not very good at this whole blogging thing. I use other social networks but I am lacking in the blog world. I'm going to try and change that! I've got a lot going on in life and I'm going to write it down. So, here's to a fresh start!
